Headlight help please!

Featured Replies

I've got the factory fit xenons on my fab. They're great but I've noticed over the last month or so that the lenses have really deteriorated on both the inside and the outside. I've tried the old trick with the toothpaste on the outside but they're no better and it's really starting to affect the light output. Does anyone know the best way to either clean them up or if I can replace the lamp housing with another standard housing and just swap in my xenon units? TIA :)

I had the same thing as well. My mechanic suggested brasso... so I gave it a try and it worked for me. It won't get them looking brand new again but with a bit of time and effort they did come up a lot better than they were...

i used just normal car polish on my headlamps, also you could try T-Cut, brasso or have a look around for a headlamp restorer, there is a few on ebay to look at just avoid anything cheap as you don't know what damage they can do, just one thing to bare in mind with the car polish / T-Cut & brasso is slow and steady wins the race :) apply it, dry it, take it off and buff it there the steps i used

Have you got a picture of them?

If they are really bad you may need to do some sanding to them before then polishing them.

+1 on sanding and polishing. Done that to my old set then broke one so replaced both!!

i tried sanding mine after my dad completely screwed mine over, didn't really work for me but have seen some some that have worked really well, worth giving a go

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I'm at work atm but will get a photo tonight and post it for u to see what u think.

The lenses seem to be plastic for Fabia MK1s that came out after 99' so anything that generates heat will deteriorate them, the best way is to buy new after market ones with glass lenses as there are some car styling companies who sell those, they're not cheap but at least they will last to the heat emited from the xenons.

3M do a kit for polishing headlamps, about £20 of the 'bay, tiny disc holder goes into electric drill, change the papers etc, worked a treat on the xenons on my old VRS, took about 1 hour total to do, totally clear lens afterwards
