Audi TT Strut brace

Featured Replies

Has anyone fitted the strut brace from an Audi TT? If so, could you please let me know how you did it as i was expecting 3 bolts/nuts to be holding the struts in but this does not appear to be the case (shows how much i keep thinking of the 80s cars...)

Take a 8mm drill bit and 6 m8 bolts with 12 washers and 6 nuts. U can grind the brackets off the strutbrace if u want to. Most people do including me. Make sure u paint the exposed metal to prevent rust. That's about it.

Use a punch to mark holes so the drill dont go awol tho

2 person job really. Bolts can be a pain to do up on your own

i know i digging up old threads , but thats whats the search is for?!?!?

anyway i have a audi tt brace to fit. now can i use rivet nuts in the strut of better off using good old nuts and bolts??

only had my new one 3 years now needs painting due to getting moved from house to house lol should probably fit it  :p

You can use rivet nuts I suppose, would be neater and less hassle to remove. However it scared me a bit in case they didn't go quite right and I'd have to correct something. What I did was use the shortest bolts I could get away with and put black plastic dome covers on, looked pretty neat.

yeah i suppose using rivet nuts i must be totally precise. and the hole would need to be bigger than the bolt so if things go wrong could cause me issues!!

Indeed, make sure you get some zinc primer and touch up paint to rust proof the holes, and do all you can to keep the swarf out of the engine bay.

will do in the process of painting it now plasticote black., in two minds whether to change it to blue tho!

Whatever floats your boat mate. I left mine black which looked good on yellow. I reckon white might look good on yours, your cars black isn't it?

yeah black , but all the silicone pipes are blue, was gunna match them up, but lot of hassle probs just stick with black!!

Nice work, I found an open ended spanner vertically up onto the bolts from underneath held them just enough to get them tight, it is awkward though whatever you do
