Underbody Spring Seats?

Featured Replies

Hi, everyone!

I recently noticed a strange sound every time I went over a bump. It sounded like someone flicking the bottom of a plastic cup. Upon inspection, it looks like the top cover for the rear strut has come loose (on both sides), and is bouncing whenever I go over a bump. At the top of the strut, there's some kind of foam stopper, which protects the metal on the chasis when the car bottoms out, and and it is quite badly worn with no obvious method of attaching the strut top cover, so I obviously need to replace these. The problem is, I've no idea what they're called. The best I could come up with was "underbody spring seat", But I'm unsure if that's right. Please could someonee tell me what they're called?

Many thanks in advance.

You mean shock absorber buffers I'm guessing,

If your car is lowered it might be a good idea to fit the shorter Ibiza Cupra ones

I think you have some broken bump-stops. Extremely common. These are the foamy-rubber things (Part 4)  that the plastic covers (Part 12) attach to. The foam bits are a push fit upwards into the upper bearing (Part 10), but they tear and leave behind the section that fits snugly in there.

Here's a diagram with some part numbers for you, with references as above.  Looks like the stop buffer (commonly known as bump stop) changed length a touch (and so part number), at some point during production, so it may be best to give a Skoda dealer your reg and ask which part number suits your exact car.

I have heard of people successfully super-gluing the bump stops back together.  Worth a try at least, I'd say.

The Ibiza Cupra P/N iirc was 6LL 512 131, might have changed since I bought mine

Aha! Bump-stops! That sounds familiar.

Thanks a lot for all your help, guys! :)
