Wire into engine bay?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if there's a spare grommet on the Fabia VRS bulkhead to run a wire into the engine bay?

The Alpine h/u i have needs the live running direct to the battery and i don't fancy drilling a hole in another car (h/u has been in 8 cars so far :) )

cheers

Yes there is but if you take down the drivers under dash panel there is a perfect teminal 30 live connection there that goes straight to the battery. Its the main bus bar on the relay plate.

Excellent :) - erm whats a man bus bar? (don't have the manual yet as dealer didn't supply 1)

cheers

Under the drivers trim (by your knees) there is a square control unit, that just unclips. With that down you can see the relay plate. Above that is a row of 10mm nuts. Find the perm live one and using a round terminal join into that.

Thanks, you've saved me a lot of hassle this weekend - now to find a place to mount the changer :)

I recommend the OEM place - under the passenger seat...

Yep thought of that Tom - is there a bracket available to ount to the seat bottom? will the Alpine changer fit this bracket (it's smaller than most)?

Well took 7 screws out of the lower trim and tried to pull it down - it wouldn't come off - is the square control unit behind all this?

it's more of a job than i thought - any pics please? :)

Did you remove the trim infront of the dash cluster and remove the top screws?

i removed the screw on the right

So you

Removed the top screw,

Removed the fuse cover

Undone the side screws

Undone the screws running along the bottom edge

Undone the one screw to the left of the column cowling (going upwards)

Pulled the trim forward

Unclipped the a/c pipe

Unplugged the light switch

yes

er nope ?

and nope again :(

damn i though it'd be a coupl of screws, lower trim and see the nut with the live

gonna get another h/u that doesn't need wiring to a live, just plugs into the ISO, will be a lot easier

When I first read this thread title at silly o'clock in the morning, I thought it said 'where is the engine bay'. :P

I must go for that eye test i've been planning.

Me too. :o

If it helps when I wired in a live and earth for my boost guage lighting, I took it from the headlight wiring (tapped into wire which became live with sidelights on for power, and earthed to fuses area)

I don't know why but the manual says to run the live direct to the battery or fusebox for this h/u - it's classed as a high power model (4x60w) - i'm hoping to get a 4x50w or 4x45w h/u which i hope will be ok plugging into the ISO

i change cars pretty regular and am getting fed up with drilling through bulkheads, etc - the last 3 cars have had the standard h/u in as i couldn't be bothered with swapping tham about but i want to change this Symphony unit so i can add the 6 disc changer i've got

Yeah, a single headlight wire wouldn't like that.

4 x 50s plug into ISO without any problems, and I suspect a 4 x 60 would as well. I've had to drill through my bulkhead as I had to run 4awg down to the boot. Grommet wasn't big enough.

AAAAARGG - managed to get the under dash panel off, pulled out the black square box but couldn't find a live nut anywhere?

Got cheesed off so decided to give up and put the dash back together and bugger me what a hassle that rubber hose is - took an hour to get it back together

conclussion - sod this i'm gonna buy another h/u with max of 4x50w to plug direct into ISO :(
