Tailgate lock replacement?

Featured Replies

Hi!

I'm trying to assess the best repair solution for my Father's Fabia, 80 miles away!

A month ago, he drove into his garage with the hatchback up. Ouch! I visited a couple of days later, and replaced the two lifting struts which had broken away on impact. I also cleaned up the tailgate, which hadn't been badly damaged as the struts had given way quickly, the tailgate crashing shut with an almight bang, apparently.

However, he's now found that the lock itself is broken, and will not lock. He says it looks as if a bit has broken away. The simplest approach would seem to be for me to replace the lock when he visits in a few days time. Since I can't see his Fabia, can anyone tell me, please, if that is a simple job, or one best left to the local dealer?

Sorry for such a long post!

Stuart

Pretty simple, only a couple of bolts once the trim is off.
