steering vibration on braking

Featured Replies

Hello all, as the topic says I'm getting pretty awful vibration at the steering wheel when braking at normal speeds. Seems the oscillation really kicks in around 30mph. Car is an 04 vrs.

So question is what parts are causing it ? I'm thinking the front discs and pads but I'm also starting to suspect trackrod ends as the steering seems exceptionally light. Also the steering rack was replaced when I brought it a year ago.. Could something have loosened itself off causing this vibration ?

Many thanks in advance

Most probably warped brake disks. Personally I would start with changing disks and pads.

Cheers - will change those first.

If not, I found getting decent tyres up front solved mine

Sticky calipers can cause this too, check if they are sticking when you get out of the car by touching the wheels - if one is hot - time for a regrease :)

My ol mk2 chavalier was awful for this! Glowing red discs! Could've cooked an egg on the wheel!

Discs and pads. Get Pagid ones if you can.
