Cheapest modifications

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Being a tight Yorkshireman, I'm interested to know what are your best value cheapest mods? I'm someone will say air freshener lol

Jim

Rear Anti Roll Bar - hard to beat on improvement per £

If you have the skills or a friendly mechanic should be negligible install costs too

remap! best you can get £ for £ for power raab best mod for improving road holding

Power gain = stage 1 remap

handling gain = rear anti roll bar

Pretty much everything else after that is diminishing gains for £££ spent.  I should know....

the "free" mods include the pikey arch vent mod where you cut a hole in the drivers arch, glue/screw in a map vent, which allows air to come in and past the intercooler more efficiently. :)

other "free" mods are things where you can save weight.  Eg: If you don't carry back seat passengers often. chuck the back seats in the shed/loft for a bit = 25kg+ weight saving = better handling (ok, it's marginal, but it's free!)

Good tyres.

Lol, love it, free mod - chuck the seats in the shed.

Faboka remap!

Used the best fuel & best oil for the car......don't skimp on these & the car will love you for it!........... :sun:

depends what you want the mods to be for, interior or exterior or performance or handling or electrical

Rear anti roll bar without a moment's hesitation.  Transforms the car without really needing to mess around with replacing suspension (in the real world on UK roads).

Good tyres a must as the car is heavy and decent rubber usually means better grip providing that things like correct load rating and inflation are observed. I've never driven a car so sensitive to tyre choice.  Mine came with budget tyres when I bought it, and all 4 can be made to squal with the slightest corner provocation in the dry.

If you do nothing more, these mods will transform handling.

Also, before shelling out on fancy 312mm brake conversions, often a simple replacement of brake fluid and bleeding works wonders, especially if decent pads are used.  Cost is very modest.

Wash and spruce up!  Worth removing wheels every now and then and using brake dust cleaner (shiny wheels stuff) to get all the crud off and keep on top of it.  If you want a change but don't want to buy new wheels, rub them down a little and spray gunmetal grey or something then re-lacquer.  Cheap mod which can smarten the car up.

Finally, air freshener...."wild apple" does it for me!  :D

Regular cleaning session to keep the weight down :P

Spray front grill surround, new badges, aero wiper, armrest, lupo cup holder...

You after performance mods? Handling mods? Aesthetic mods? Or anything..?

In a seriousness, the Red Powerflex lower engine mount.... £30 odd from forum sponsor, can be done at home and for me improved the gear change response massively. (IMO)

Anything really, and also out of interest. I just wondered what each person felt their best mod was for the cash, I wouldn't mind doing the odd small modification when I don't have much cash, so your ideas are pretty awesome for that... not heard of the lupo cup holder modification, might look into that.

The RARB does sound like it's the dogs danglies, but I do like the odd personal touch in the **** pit that you can fit yourself and be proud of.

thanks for the ideas so far!, I've seen the list of modifications in another post, which is a cool list, but I wondered which ppl thought were value for money and also the cheaper side of the market.

i thought adding LED'S strips to the under side of my front doors was the nice and cheap mod i have done, 8 quid for 20 tips of less that are waterproof, just linked them to the door lights and there great
