Bodywork Quote- is it reasonable?

Featured Replies

So the driveway at Skodanorman Towers gas claimed another victim. As can be seen the front bumper has had a small impact with the garage door post.

The damage is quite minute and the plastic hasn't split. My local bodyshop has quoted £280 for the repair. Seems a hell of a lot to me. Your opinions would be valued.

Probably get a new bumper fully fitted for that!

What car is it Skodanorman?

Well. I've got a small dint in my passenger door (some careless ****) and i was quoted £500 to fill and respray both doors.

£280 for that little bit of a filling and spraying job does seem expensive!

Some companies will do it paintless and use levers on inside of door to pop it out

It's a mk3 vRS (Octavia).

That's probably about right as it will most likely be a new bumper if done through skoda

I bet you didn't swear....much!

People won't park near me I hope :)

I find with bodywork it's the old saying 'you get what you pay for'. If it comes out perfect first time then I'd be happy paying that, good workmanship doesn't come cheap. Something like bodywork I'm happy to pay for and travel for

Bottom of bumper?

Isn't that plastic?

If so sit on it. It won't rust. Pick up a bumper later.

Bring it round to me Rob, sure I've got a lump hammer in the truck that can fix that ! ;) gimme a shout if your in town I can give you a few peoples numbers see if they can help you out man. Also bring the car I need a good nose around it !

P.s can do you a nice new driveway ? Haha

IIRC thats plastic down there, if you can remove the grills easily it maybe be possible to push the dent out from behind. Assuming plastic it should just pop out.

It might well pop out with a gentle heat and a bit persuasion if you can access it well enough, worth giving it a go if you are looking at a new bumper anyway

I was priced £280 for a full roof respray + rain gutter reseal, so appears a little expensive, but im no expert :)

Yeah it is plastic. I figured it isn't going to rust - it just looks really unsightly - particularly as it is one of my favourite features of the mk3 vRS.

I did wonder if you could sand it down, fill it, sand it and paint it... but it would probably end up looking rubbish and then you'd only have to pay a professional to redo what you'd messed up.

Dallen75 - I'll give you a message during my next leave; can sort something out. I'll have to wash it first though...

As dallen says try a heat gun, the bumper will have memory when moulded may come out, look on utube loads on this and good look i would be gutted to.

Sounds ok price wise.

To do a proper job the bumper will need removing and then I would think it may need plastic welding to fill the hole.

If you just put body filler in then it would most likely fall out or crack when the bumper flexes if not done right.

i go by £200 a panel so its not too far out.
