Have you tried a Local Tyre & Exhaust Fitter, (that is not Kwikfit)  and see what they can get you, and how much.

depends on the type. My first car had the cat go, and it was pita, dealer only job as it was integrated into the manifold... That was a 2003 hyundai getz, so possibly the corolla is similar?

Corolla cat should be down under the car if its like the Celica. Don't know why a Toyota would be the same as a Hyundai :P

Just make sure if you buy a non-genuine catalyst it complies with the new type approval ... Any car registered after 2001 needs to be fitted with a type approved catalyst, I believe this is checked during the MOT

Has he tried eBay? When my old car failed it's MOT on emissions I found a brand new 200 cell sports cat from a company from Brimingham on eBay for £150 I think which I took to the MOT guy and he fitted it into the exhaust system underneath the car and it then passed with flying colours. So, try eBay or an online scrap yard dealer? Normally get things quite cheap there?

Try your local custom exhaust place. Got a sports cat fitted to mine earlier this year (cos of the wonderful new law) for £175. Took them about 4 hours so they earned their money!
