Rear pad change

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Car just been serviced. Needs rear pads changing quick fast! Does anyone know what calliper wind back tool I need??

Think the rest I can handle... :)

Thanks

Tom

Got mine from Halfrauds years ago, can't remember how much, but its been a lifesaver on more than one occasion.

Machine mart if you need one sharpish.

Laser 1214 is the specific tool for VAG cars, but the kit as pointed out will do them and most others as well.

A pair of water pump pliers does the job.

You can grip the outer edge of the piston and wind it slowly bit by bit.

I had to do this when the previous owner had rebuilt the caliper without the outer dust cover, it was so stiff to wind, the proper tool actually cammed out and deformed the soft piston metal rendering further use impossible.

The proper tool is fine and dandy until you get a partly seized piston, personally I enjoy the pliers method.

If you get the jaws facing the correct way it's just like using a ratchet and the job's done in no time.

bought a specific kit of eBay for £15-£20 and did a great job

Pliers or bodging it does not work in a lot of cases as the piston winding back is way too stiff
