Fuel Indicator Stopped Working? URGENT HELP

Featured Replies

  • Author

We got 2. My parents own a 1.9 TDI which has the problem. Also i messaged the guy on ebay and he replied with this

"Hi the fuel gauge in the car this part is from worked perfectly, it is from a car with 33000 miles so should be a good replacement, some skodas have a problem where wiring goes into dash binnacle, sometimes they just need unplugging and plugging in again and it may be ok"

What's he on about? Which wiring?

Thanks

Oh I see :)

He means the wiring going into the instrument panel. There will be a plug on the back of it. It's quite easy to take the panel out.

Yeah two plugs go into it...

Yes, it's the instrument cluster. Have a look at post #10 here, it tells you how to remove the cluster... http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/213692-speedo-instrument-cluster-problems-solved/

You will need a T20 torx bit for the 4 screws but it's dead easy to get the cluster out. I'm not sure it's going to solve the issue but you've got nothing to lose I suppose.

Had a go taking that out. Didnt resolve the problem.. So I can only assume its the sensor. Taken it back out and put my old one back in. Messaged the seller and hes being an arse now claiming it was fully tested and that it worked. I asked him if he drove the car to see which way the needle goes and he said no. So it cant have been fully tested. Hes not taking responsibility for it so looks like i got to go threw ebay. Pain in the arse !!!

Mines the same, has been for at least a year, it's just crossed wires, in theory you should be able to switch the wires in the plug around, but I keep putting it off myself. Since the pump is now out, you can swap the wires over on the float and it'll register correctly.

The wires in his plug are correct. I can see that the order is the same as mine. I fail to see how they could magically move themselves in a moulded plug in any case.

I even swapped them and made no difference. Looks like eBay give you prepaid return postage labels for not as described items. Its going back tomorrow.

Parents might be selling the car as they want a small petrol. So just going to leave it.

Thanks for the help guys!

You're welcome. Pick something easier to fix next time :D
