Knocking when on full lock

Featured Replies

HI all,

Just a quick rack of your brains, I driving my fiesta earlier this afternoon and there has developed a fair bit of knocking when manoeuvring at low speed, which gets worse the closer to full lock you get.

Am I right in thinking this is probably the joints in the drive-shafts wearing out? I am sure I read that at some point on here.

Thanks,

Matt :)

Pretty much bang on the money

CV joints :)

Thanks - just wanted to run it past someone else :)

However it looks like they aren't too cheap :(

Check the boot hasn't split, or it could chuck grease all over your brakes.

Good point! Thanks, I'll check them in the morning...

As Defenderben said - almost certainly the CV drives.

How many miles has your car done?

Same problem happened on my previous car, however they had done 115k

Car has done about 96,000.

I checked the driveshafts for play (with the wheels off the ground), I could barely feel any between any of them to be honest. But when I was manourvering around the creaking was there for most of the steering travel, and I seem to remember looking into it before and found the suggestion that it may be the track rods to blame. I think I need to do a little more digging, because I am not sure I need to go replacing driveshafts just yet!

Edit - I checked the CV boots to and found nothing wrong, there was no errent grease either :)
