Track rods

Featured Replies

I went to have my wheel alignment done earlier on today and they couldnt do it. Said both track rods and both track rod ends would need to be replaced first. Theres nothing wrong with either track rod end. What exactly can go wrong with the rod? All they said was theres no thread on them? Whatever that means

They adjust on a thread which has probably rotted away or seized

Is that a common problem?

I've had this issue several times now. Its basically because the locking nut seizes quite bad to the track rod end and basic tyre fitting garages won't mess about with them. They won't know if your track rods or ends are worn. I spray loads of wd40 on them and get them loose before I go for tracking now.

Arrr cheers meaty. I cant look till monday but i know the ends are fine in terms of play i checked them just over a week ago and they passed the mot fine. Think i will slacken them off and just put new ends on and try again

Might make sense to replace both rods and ends, £50 all in for Lemforder from carparts4less

No thread on the nearside rod it just crumbles away. Crap

Mine were looking bad but I gave them a scrub with a wire brush and sprayed some WD on them they came up fine.

Tried that the thread just fell off

I guess if you do sort em, coat em in wax or whatever so the same doesnt happen again :)
