Finally Broke it

Featured Replies

Well it's finally had it's first failure!

The VAG water pump of doom has struck again and i now have an interesting relationship between throttle and temp gauge.

Not bad considering it's been driven spiritedly for the last 45,000

Car is now sat on driveway waiting till the weekend when i will perform surgery.

Couple of questions really anyone done this job and are there any things that a particular fag?

Do we reckon vw/skoda/audi/seat have a built in self detination timer as the car is 6 days out of warranty and the stealers quote 450quid to do as might as well do cam belt at sam time!!!

Something similar happened my old Octavia RS a couple of years back. I was driving in icy conditions so had been taking it pretty easy for about 2 hours, then got to a dual-carriageway and picked up speed (to about 70mph). All of a sudden, the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree with audible warnings everywhere. I noticed the temp guage soar towards 130 alarmingly quickly, so I backed off immediately.

Turned out that the thermostat failed leaving the water pump to burn itself out. Not so long after, the expansion tank & coolant level sensor were replaced, and later on the engine temp sensor was also replaced. Thankfully, all this happened on mine before the warranty expired.

lets be honest the germans think of everything

I would place a call to Skoda UK and explain to them. 6 days out should get you some goodwill if not the job done. You could argue it was on the rocky road to failure long ago, maybe you even haven't driven it for two weeks.
