Originally (May 2002) my local skoda dealer fitted a sony single cd / radio unit to my Fabia when I bought it new (complete with wiring adaptor). The car's original fittment was a sympony radio unit only. A few months ago the radio packed up, so I bought an orginal "Symphony" Radio / single cd unit from a friend who had it working in his Octavia. Everything worked fine in the octavia. When I installed it in my Fabia with the correct original wiring loom connectors everything worked except there is no illumination when the rest of the instruments light up, and the unit does not turn on or off via the ignition, it simply is on or off by pushing the radio button.

I checked the pin voltage supply on the illumination pin rconnector ( pin 6 on the black connector ) and voltage is present when the lights are switched on but the untit does not illuminate.

In set up i have set "key On" with regards to the igntion key control of the unit but this has no effect.

The dealer says it must be a faulty unit, but i dont accept this as it works Ok in the Octavia

can anyone help me on these, or suggest any company's who can.

Does the HU remembers its settings (radio station memory, eq, etc.)?

If not, swap the BATTERY and IGNITION wires.

In fact, swap them anyway and see if it works

Dougal, many thanks for this, it is so similar to my problem that it has to be down to the radio coding as mentioned in your previous threads.

The next question therefore is; where in the north west of England can I find someone who has VAGCOM who could re the code for me

many thanks for your reply, i have been on holiday so sorry for the late response to your thread. I tried your suggestion but all memory was lost when I turned the ignition off and it had no effect on the illumination.

I think dougal has cracked it with his response re the coding of the radio. I just need to find someone with VAGCOM close to me.
