Xman - Garrett GT17/52 hybrid turbo

Featured Replies

As title, anyone got one of them or fitted one of them?

Garrett GT17/52 hybrid turbo -

Garrett GT17/52 hybrid turbo, benefits from PD150 shaft and GT2052v cold side with 52mm compressor wheel and full size GT2052v compressor housing.

Hope nothing to bad as I've orderd one anyway, final piece of the project puzzle for now!

how did you get on with this mate?

Really well. The turbo looked well made and solid, came with a balance report etc.

Fitted to the car ok, but had to clock it quite abit, which also involved grinding down of the bolts for the housing as when clocked into place it would hit the oil return pipe.

Power wise it went to about 230bhp before the stock clutch started slipping so was left at that until it was changed. Got told it had more to give anyway.

Great, useful info!

What else have you done to your car and what power are you running now?

I did loads of things, but alot of supporting things really.

It has....

PD160 intake

Jabbasport cone in a box filter

Darkside intake pipe

Larger TIP (needed for turbo, approx £6)

The hybrid turbo

Hard boost pipes

THS FMIC

EGR delete

Inlet manifold cleaned and polished

Cylinder head cleaned with new valves/seats

Full decat piper exhaust.

It has a new owner now so not sure on power but know it's been remapped since. I think 230bhp is good for the turbo, stock injectors are good for about 250bhp and cost about £1200 to change, so unless you want to pay that for injectors, I don't see much point in getting a huge turbo.

I suspect it's around 240'ish now anyway.

Just stumbled across this thread. I'm the "new" owner of hutchies car. Still going strong with that turbo. 16k since It was remapped to just shy of 220bhp. Still pulls really well and is easy to average well into the 50s on my daily commute.

I'm still shocked and stunned he sold it ... !!

Happy new car for you though, what a machine. And what a well looked after machine too.

Out of interest what sort of rpm does this turbo start to pull from when mated to the 1.9pd?

Thanks mate, read the date on the first post though.

This was my silver VRS I also rebuilt and did all sorts on before selling it, not my special edition I recently rebuilt and sold :p

Would vary depending on the mapping.

I appreciate this will be dependent on the map the car is running, but what is the lowest rpm this turbo could make boost?

I am running a standard pd130 KKK on my BLT fabia, so it will pull from approx. 1500rpm. A previous pd150 golf I owned started pulling from 1800-1900rpm. On the other side I have driven a tuners car running a stage 3 pd150 hybrid turbo that was flat as a pancake until 2400 rpm and then it flew.

It's just interesting to know what these different turbo options are like as a daily driver should mine ever go pop.

It was around 1800rpm from when I had it.

Sorry to dig up an old thread.

It really is 2k before it gets going but it's starting before then. I did a 30-70 video in 3rd gear and it still picked up well sub 2k. It's a rapid little car. My friend has a jap spec ep9 CTR and he can't keep up once I'm in 3rd gear. That thing has all sorts of shiny bits on it too. My other mates s2000 only just gets away from me.

I've loved the car. Hopefully done hutchys work proud by continuing to invest in the car, 312s, ap coil overs (sorry mate those yams were aweful) I'd say the car is the best blend for a daily driver.

The Jom coilovers are pretty awful :D

Im just glad your still enjoying it after all this time

I'm just about to sell it actually. I'm about to buy a gtb powered one from a guy at work. It's the silver 05 one which you did all the work on about a year ago.

Ah very nice! indeed, i remember doing an engine rebuild on that one also :D

He spent alot of money on it with the xenon headlights and extras such as the RARB, I've still got tones of pictures somewhere for it.
