Featured Replies

Hi there, I have just got my self a(2005 mk2 octavia ambient 2.0 tdi dsg estate ) and I love it I have only had it for two days but already wish I would have got one a long time ago lol (but) I wonder if anyone could advise me on a little issue I have when I start the car from cold I.e in the morning it starts with a flick of the key but when it is worm and I start it, it take a little longer to start I.e a couple of more tuns of the starter motor . Is this something I need to be concerned about or not ? It runs and pulls like a train and no smoke the other thing I would like to ask is about the dsg gear box this is the first time I have come across it and know nothing about it at all is there anything I need to be aware of with it or keep my eye on ? Any advice would be very much appreseated atb kev.

Hello mate & welcome to the forum.

It could be something as simple as a tired battery and / or starter motor. These two items are well known to cause hot starting issues and are a relatively easy fix.

I had the same issue with my Octavia when I bought it three years ago. It would start fine when cold but was somewhat reluctant when the engine was warm. I changed the battery and all has been well since.

If you do a search on this forum for hot starting issues, you'll see that quite a few people have been affected by this problem.

I'd start with the battery first and see how it goes before you start looking deeper into the cause.

As for the DSG box, I'm afraid I have no experience of these but I'm sure that one of the gang on here will be along soon to offer some advice.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Missus's A3 was the same , it was the cam shaft position sensor, not used when cold so started fine, when engine was warm it would take longer and stutter before starting. Fine now it's been replaced. We changed the battery first to no avail.

The mechatronic unit can fail on the DSG mine did on my R36 a month ago, hugely expensive, but nothing in  the way it is driven can effect it, it either stays ok or fails

Thanks for the replys chaps I will see how it goes it isn't a real problem has long has it starts ok just thought I would ask incase it could be a problem with me only just getting the car, but a couple of more turns of the starter to start I can live with unless it gets worse cheers lads kev.

Can you find someone locally with VAGCOM/VCDS ?

They might be able to find any error codes logged. My fathers car exhibits this behaviour - wont start again when warm, and we've seen an error with the coolant temp sensor which apparently is a cause - but not sure. we havent replaced it yet though - so can't confirm 100% that this will fix it
