It was loose under the bonnet close to the front left hand headlight unit, and didn't appear to be attached to anything!  I'm puzzled so would appreciate it if anyone can enlighten me!!!

A tool for removing plastic trim. It doesn't damage them like a screwdriver would

Nope not a trim tool it's actually a window tool that they use to press the seal in around the front window we use something similar at work

Many thanks for the replies. Having found it lodged near the headlight , I thought it must be some part of the car, but really hadn't a clue what or from where. Now I don't have to worry and can stick it in the glove box ready for when I get a new windscreen......
