First car - advice highly needed !

Featured Replies

Dear Briskoda community,

Just got my first car which is Skoda Octavia II 2004 (Elegance) 2.0 diesel. Got the particular one because of the equipment and condition (for the given budget - best one on the market) - leather seats, 6 speed manual gearbox, controls on the wheel, dark blue color(instead of locally more silver)....

There is just one issue... AUDIO...

I have an Audience H/U with built in 6cd changer in it, production date 41/04... I've been going through this forum but can't seem to find the conclusive answers for my problems

- Radio reception kinda sucks. I did open up the whole aerial assembly but no visible issues with the amplifier/wiring etc. It can't be the stations because at work I drive a newer Audi which gets crystal clear reception regardless of location. Maybe antenna needs replacement ? Are there any better alternatives other then getting OEM from Skoda??

- My ultimate goal is to play my ipod music via H/U. Somewhere I read that there are earlier and later production Audience h/u's. Is mine considered newer or older (PD 4104)?? There are metal pins on the back for CDC connection but not sure if they will work with Dension unit... I found an option for a hardwired FM modulator which connect through antenna. Anybody got any experience with that? Maybe other options??

Please note that I do not want to replace my existing H/U for budget reasons...

Any help/advise will be greatly appreciated!!

The normal test on the HU is to hold the menu button for 10 seconds until the screen changes. You will see ANT ON or ANT OFF. if ANT is OFF the aerial amplifier is not working.

Ended up buying new aerial with amp....however, when changed it doesn't make a significant difference. You can hear the radio, but some of the distortion noise is still present. Maybe it is the wire from h/u to the aerial that needs to be changed?? Or is the h/u simmply crappy and can't make a solid, lasting radio reception?
