An apparent anomoaly in the dry 7 speed DSG transmission?

Featured Replies

As fitted to our 2010 Octavia.

Last night along the Promenade in Portstewart, I was crawling in traffic, as usual; I was leaving a goodly gap in front, so as to minimize the stop/starting.

I noted, as usual, that the transmission jumped very quickly into "D2", as it does, without ANY throttle input?

I managed to get her to stay in "D1" , a few times in succession, AND long enough to note that regardless of "D1" or "D2" being selected, that my speed was identical at 9.5mph without any throttle input, i.e. at absolute tickover revs along the absolute flat seafront.

That is to say, daft as it sounds, that the ratios for 1st and 2nd gear are IDENTICAL!

Can anyone offer an explanation?

Marcus
