1.2 TSI Bogging Down?

Featured Replies

Got a weird intermittent issue with my Monte. Basically, sometimes when I accelerate and change gear, usually into 3rd or 4th, the engine seems to bog down, even though I'm well within the torque band, it seems like there's something holding it back. Putting my foot down further makes no difference to acceleration. Anyone got any ideas what the cause of it could be, or had a similar issue?

Just to be clear, do you mean you are accelerating and changing up to a higher gear, ie 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th,

Or you change down and accelerate?

What RPM are you changing up at,

if that is when it bogs down?

What age and mileage of car?

Yes only happens when changing up into 3rd or 4th, between 3500-4000rpm which drops down to about 2500rpm once I've changed up, but it's still well within the torque band (1800rpm-4000rpm I think). Doesn't happen all the time either, which is weird.

63 reg 1.2 TSI 105, just passed 10000 miles.

Skoda give it as 175 Nm @ 1,500 - 4,100 rpm,  so yes you seem to be in the torque band.

It will be interesting to hear others experiences, and if they have had the same thing.

Could be a simple boost leak. A quick check of the pipework may give you an idea.

Thanks for the replies. It's due back at the dealer to get new steering arms so might mention it while it's there. Could a boost leak cause intermittent bogging down? I don't hear any noises, whistling or otherwise, when it happens. I know some 1.2 TSI's have had turbo issues, so hoping it's not that, although it's still under warranty so not so bad.

There have been a few reports of problems with the electrically operated turbo actuator.

Noticed on an odd occasion a sensation that feels like a reluctance to accelerate; mind it still performs as expected. This is with both our TSI 86 and 105, although in general its seems to happen while the engine is still getting up to normal running temperature.

That's what happens but the engine is up to temperature when it does. Strange.
