Fabia Elegance seats - incredibly uncomfortable

Featured Replies

I thought it'd soften up a bit, but I think it's getting worse; I have a month or so old Fabia Elegance estate, and my back aches after every journey now. I've never before encountered a car with such an uncomfortable driver's seat.

Can anything be done?

Fiddle around with wheel and seat settings ... I'm 6ft something and 16st with a bad back from my motorcycle days and I can get comfortable.

VAG seats tend to be a bit like a bar stool when new, but the advantage is that they are still nice and firm in 10yrs.

Do you have heated seats? I have found that switching this on when I get a twinge in my back has helped me in other cars.

I have trouble after the wife has been driving the car.

She was in it yesterday and I've got a stiff back after the drive in this morning.

I've tried various back angles and heights and it doesn't seem to make a lot of difference. The heat does help while it's on but I'd rather not get the soreness in the first place!

Are there any rules-of-thumb I should know about about setting seat angles, or is is just trial and error and variable for each person? It's particularly upsetting because the car is otherwise pretty much perfect - my only other niggle would be that the buttons on the radio aren't very intuitive, but just reading the manual would solve that problem, so I've only myself to blame on that one. ;)

The soreness is at the base of my back if that helps.

Never had any real problems with the Elegance seats and I could quite happily do a 4 hour stint in them with no aches or pains. Could have done with being a bit more supportive though :D

That's the same place I get the soreness in.

I've found the seat height has a lot to with it.

I'll carry on adjusting it then, see what works best for me. Actually, I think I've raised it recently, that might have made things worse...

Hi,

Had a similar problem with the VRS when I changed from a new mini. In the end I bought a Tempur cushion from a guy in the states via ebay. Quite pricey at

I have had a look at a few "back shops" on the inferweb this morning, and that looks like it might be the way to go. Ta. :)

Well I'm 6'3" and 19st and not had any probs as yet, and have had mine just a bit longer so maybe just down to how you have yours set? As for height adjustment, have mine set fairly close to bottom setting. Finding the heated seats do help on the long motorway trips though, and will be a real godsend if we get a cold winter.

If you've got short legs, the underside of your thigh presses on the seat height adjuster every time you get out. After a fortnight or so, the seat position has changed appreciably. Is it simply that the height adjustment is way off?

I think I've heard it go when I get in... hmm. I shall recheck my seat position before heading home this evening, see if I can improve matters.

I regularly got a pain in the lower back in my Elegance, and realised that I was sitting hunched forward. Tilted the seat back and it's been fine ever since.

I did find that the seat had lowered quite a bit, so cranked it up a ways and tilted the back back a little, and I was much less sore when I arrived home this evening than recently - still not quite right, but that could have been from this morning.

I've also demanded a better chair for work on the basis that that might be contributing. Thanks for the suggestions and advice. :)
