A Day at Shark Performance

Featured Replies

Well it's here, the Yeti is in for development as Shark sort out the mapping via the OBD for the 1.6tdi.

As promised I'll get some pics and let you know how the day progresses.

  • Bad news and good news: Bad- it's not the new ECU in the Yeti!! Everyone thought the facelift had it but it's still using the continental :( Good news is we are going to go ahead and map it anyway

  • Nope, £8per month increase :( worth it though

  • So will I (again) very soon.

Are you getting rid of the tuning box then and having a stage 1 put on in its place?

That's the plan, Shark are using it for development so I get free map out of it :) love the box but this was a no brainer.

She's on the dyno, let the fun begin :)

I want to take mine back for a dyno run sometime. They were having that new one installed the week mine went in, so it wasn't an option. Are you/they expecting around the same figures as the DTUK box gave?

Yeti being set up by Ben.

That's what we are gonna find out, the guess is it will but the delivery will be different.

Yep, two Octavia VRS's plus the Yeti :)

Very interesting, hope you get the results you're looking for. :)

The DTUK box figures were assumed on this car, it wasn't dyno'd with the box on.

Looking forward to seeing the results.

We are going to fit the VW Racing Closed Air Induction kit while it's here, everything can then be set up together.

induction kit looks sweet, guess there will be a cool engine note too.

I was telling the guys about your Yeti project, they were very interested, they thought the CitiGo was mental :)

Well the results are in and Ben is completely shocked, as am I, are you sitting down.......

148.9bhp and 306nm !!! Here's the graph for all those that love them.

What were the before readings?

Please don't say that there was no 'before' run done....

Isn't the ECU and motor the same as the Fabia 1.6 unit then?!

Yes it is, I'm putting the power increase down to a better intercooler. Torque is almost identical but up top where it gets hotter the Yeti is coping with the heat in a better way.

interesting, proves the worth of a better IC then :) Be interested to hear but I'm guessing it'll now be noticeably nicer out on the road, even compared to the box :)

So a slightly bigger turbo and an uprated IC for the Fabia then Ben? ;)

There seems to be an issue with the forum, it's not allowing me to upload pics? As soon as its sorted I'll get the picture of the graph up.

Well, the two hour drive home had me grinning all the way, I wasn't expecting the results we got, and as far as we know, this Shark Performance tuned Yeti Greenline is now the fastest in the country!!

It's not just about the top figure though, it's the way the car is now delivering the extra power, it's so smooth and pulls all the way though the rev range. Overtaking is unberleavable easy as the extra power was there on tap as I drove back over the Pennines through Snake Pass.

If I had to compare the way it's now driving, it's like the BMW 120d I had as a hire car for work. But the yeti feels even stronger than that as it pulls when you put you foot down.

Cruising along is great, at 70mph the revs are sitting slightly lower and the computer was showinging great mpg, I'll have to test this of course with a couple of brim to brim calculations.

To sum up, I'm happier than I thought I could be and my Yeti is even more loved as it drives so smoothly, the engine note has changed, it's quitened down and sounds smooth under acceleration. I wasn't expecting such an amazing result, the only downside is, we had to take out the ECU. It's a calculated decision and risk I was willing to take, and results have certainly made it worth it.

I have to say a huge thank you to Ben and the team at Shark Performance, they did an amazing job.

All sounds good and would be what I'd expect tbh (except for the fact you say it's sitting at lower revs now at 70mph!) be interesting to hear how the economy now changes. Calculating brim to bim I'd suggest it'll be slightly improved at 70mph cruising. :)

I recon so but I'll hang fire for a proper test, I've sorted out a link for the graph results :)

It's only slightly lower, where it's was at 2000rpm @70 in was sitting slightly under at 1800
