A Day at Shark Performance

Featured Replies

Interesting to hear the engine note changed to be quieter. Mine growls a little more, rather than the more usual tractor noise, though it's no noisier. Engine revs are also slightly down by 100 rpm or so compared to before at 70. Mind you I appreciate having 4WD with the extra power, as my old 110 TDi Octy would wheelspin at the first hint on damp pulling out of junctions. I expect your Yeti will be quite entertaining at times :)

I'd also be interested to hear how the mpg changes. I haven't had less than 40 mpg since my remap (tankfuls of just local driving often showed just 37/38 mpg), and it does get driven more spiritedly than before. Probably just 1-2mpg improvement, but it is much more fun to drive. And that's with just a 20% increase. Your 40% increase must be really noticeable!

  • Bad news and good news: Bad- it's not the new ECU in the Yeti!! Everyone thought the facelift had it but it's still using the continental :( Good news is we are going to go ahead and map it anyway

  • Nope, £8per month increase :( worth it though

  • So will I (again) very soon.

It was good to begin with being the Greenline so if it stays as is ill be happy, if it slightly improves I'll be chuffed :)

Have you managed to convince your insurer that this too is an economy remap rather than a performance one? ;)

Well, the two hour drive home had me grinning all the way, I wasn't expecting the results we got, and as far as we know, this Shark Performance tuned Yeti Greenline is now the fastest in the country!!

I expect it is the fastest Yeti Greenline in the country.

Glad you got a good result and are happy with it.

I'm now having to stop myself researching turbo and intercooler upgrades!!! I must resist ;)

After a couple of days driving the now named "Sharky", SWIMBO asking "what do those Shark stickers mean" and and saying "ooh it feels much quicker", I'm happier than ever. The Mpg isn't showing signs of any adverse effects, although driving has been a little more spirited, all within legal limits, just getting there a bit quicker :)

Motorway driving is much more fun with overtaking a doddle, stay in 5th and you go from 70 to ***(the speed required for the manoeuvre ;) ) much quicker, than before.

The story is the same on th windy stuff, the Sharky has always handled well, helped on by the lower suspension from stock, but pulling out of bends is fantastic with much harder acceleration. A blip around the quite roads of Delameer forest had me grinning from ear to ear. I'd really like to get some timing figures sorted, so if there's anyone with any OBD kit or similar and fancies giving me a hand around the Cheshire area that would be great. Alternatively a trip Oulton Park would be fun :)

For those still wondering why I would performance tune a Yeti Greenline, well I thought I'd have a look at some of the published figures for the CR170 Yeti:

Engine power (BHP): 170

Torque (lbs/ft): 258

Top speed (MPH): 125

Now my Yeti Greenline (AKA Sharky)

Engine power (BHP): 148.9

Torque (lbs/ft): 226

Top Speed (MPH) 124

So the figures are close, and before we get to "just buy a 170 then", well they've been done! tuned to over 300bhp, I've done something that's not been done yet and with a little more playing still to come those figures could go up! But I'm very happy with the results as they are.

Sharky will be going a little lower, and the research is on, with plans afoot to take him a little faster still.

How did you find the induction kit? How does it sound?

Been tempted to buy 1 for my vRS but never actually heard a review from someone who has one.

As soon as its on I'll let you know! Forgot to say that the kit they had thought would fit didn't so another had to be ordered. From the discussions we had, it won't give the same kind of noise you get from a petrol engine. Once it arrives and is fitted, I'll film the sound and post it up.

Which 'private road' did you use to do the top speed run,?

Don't flatter yourself, it's a different Engine - Ben has a similar engine to mine in his Fabia, so if it could be done to ours it would have been

For an evangelist you have a very odd attitude

Because RaceYeti

So the figures are close, and before we get to "just buy a 170 then"

The trouble with that is a Sharked Greenline will drive nicer than a std 170 anyway!

Why is it everyone on here seems to be able to make a joke at my expense, but when make one its all "ooh you terrible person"!!

And you are kind of right, it's exactly the same engine, it's just the stock intercooler that's bigger on the Yeti, an uprated one on the Fabia would easily see it pushing the same figures.

Ben has a Forge intercooler just waiting to go on the Shark Fabia.

That said though a Sharked 170 ....  :D

Over 200bhp on a stage 1 map aren't they?

Correct

Good figures from a small engine. now the car will be able to go 115mph if the hill is long and steep enough
