Removing Polish on textured Plastics

Featured Replies

Probably one for a detailer to advise on but…   I’m in the process of swapping our aged Fabia for my father-in-laws younger and less used 8th Gen Civic.

Now the Civic has quite a lot of grey textured plastic around it on the wheel arches etc. and, knowing my father–in-law, he’ll have had a go at polishing it for me meaning it’ll probably have white polish on the grey textured plastic.

So – what is currently the best way of removing this - the Octavia, Fabia and MX5 I have don’t suffer in this way but previous cars I’ve had many years ago did and I never really found a pukka long-term solution that lasted and stopped the white marks returning!

Cheers

I'd use IPA on a rag to remove chalky old wax build up.

then once clean protect with your preferred trim gel/spray etc.

I have been known to use a good APC and an old toothbrush then protect and seal with something like gTechniq

I have used this, but if the polish is relatively fresh (eg the tape slightly peeled back during machine polishing) I find hot water and a microfiber cloth is enough to get residue off (with some fair rubbing).

Yep - this worked well on BMW Mini plastic trim

Many thanks all for the suggestions - I'll maybe work up from the least potentially damaging and see how I go - hopefully he won't have gone too mad with it!
