New Turbo - GT1749VC vs Stock KKK

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Some of you may have read I had my KKK stock turbo replaced (which turned out to be OK) with a GT1749VC with PD150 internals and a 170 compressor.

The GT1749VC is incredibly noisy in comparison to the stock KKK.  It whines significantly between 1500-2500RPM. (Had all new boost pipes and oil feed pipe)

Does anyone who has one of these hybrid type turbos fitted to the Fabia VRS think this is normal or not? The car pulls exceptionally well and there's no sign of boost issues (logs checked).  But the noise is concerning.  However, if this is normal for this type of turbo, I'll be able to put my worry at rest!

Sound clip attached,

Many thanks :)

It is indeed!  Have you heard one of these 'in action'?

Not that I am aware of!  I certainly wasn't before this was fitted and don't believe I am now?  Everything is standard bar for a Shark stage 1 map and obviously, this turbo!

I have but not on my own car, it was another member of the forum, it had a lot of other work also so didn't sound standard anyway, sorry it's not much help.

Thanks anyway! I wonder if the bigger compressor is the reason. It's very police siren!

I have one of these turbos fitted on mine, it makes a whooooshing noise upto about 3ooorpm which sounds like a boost leak but isn't as checked with vcds and checked all pipework, mine is running standard map at the moment.

That sounds relatively normal...

Mine does the same, and did it with last turbo too.

It's the whine which is the concerning part.  If yours isn't whining, I wouldn't worry too much!

Any one else got any thoughts on the audio clip above?  Can't feel/see any leaks or separation in the pipework when revving the engine.  The noise is painfully 'scratching' at circa 2000RPM which makes me wonder if its a bearing issue>

Yeh it boosts fine and no smoke so think the noise is normal.

The map could be making yours over boost and not done it any good.

I have left mine on the standard map untill I can find somebody to map it who has done this specific turbo before.

Is anybody running one of these turbos with a good solid map? What power have they made?
