Brabham to return, and maybe back to F1 in the future

A great name, lets hope they can do it justice:

Piquet in a Brabham in the early 80s were fantastic, and who remembers the fan car that won on its debut and was promptly banned?

Yes I remember the fan car, it sucked the car down onto the road and blew all of the $hit and debris from the road out of the back and all over the car behind.

This was the era when Bernie Ecclestone owned the team, but he didn't have as much clout in those days.

That's not true. They used a centrifugal fan which threw the dust against the duct, rather than an axial which would have had the effect you describe.

They are looking for investors and common folk like you and me can invest - sort of crowd funding: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/project-brabham

Already raised £78k of the £250k required.

True, a centrifugal fan will force the air to inside of the duct. After the air has hit the inside of the duct which way will it go next?

The complaints were about gravel rather than air or even dust, so the answer is "down".

So who owns the brabham rights at the moment? Isn't it Bernie & Max?

Neither of them - there is some dispute between the Brabham family and a german businessman (Franz Hilmer)

Before the start of the 2010 season, he lodged an application to enter F1 as "Brabham Grand Prix", after he bought the now defunct Super Aguri team. However, the family of Sir Jack Brabham took legal advice after news that the 'Brabham' name could return to Formula One next season, they had received no consultation regarding the plans to resurrect their historic name.
