Vrs first service, 2 years or 20k

Recommended Posts

2 Years / 20,000 miles (19,000 miles) is really a 'Major / Inspection if it did not have a 'Minor Service' at 9,400 miles (10,000)

which Variable Servicing does not.

So Long Life Oil & Filter.

Pollen Filter,

Visual Checks.

Body Work Inspection etc etc.      @ 3 years it would need a Brake Fluid Change as per Skoda Maintenance Guidelines'

So the Minor,  Major,  Minor service thing gets a bit mixed up when it is 'Variable / Flexible Servicing'.

But basically after 2 years  20,000 miles, if you are leaving it to be checked at a Garage,

it is a 'Major Service'.

If your cars engine drinks oil out of proportion to its use when it has 3.6 litres in.

Then see about having an Oil Consumption Test done.

& until then keep a record of how much oil the Engine requires.

VW, Skoda, Audi. Seat say that all types of engines, 3 & 4 Cylinder, Diesel & Petrol 'May use as much as 0.5 Litres in 1000 km'  (621 miles)

According to use etc etc    ** Page 168 of the Fabia Owners Manual.**

But that does not mean that that is right or acceptable, just their figure.

If an engine uses some oil that is not an issue,

If by chance one of the 1,800 vRS 1.4 TSI sold between 2010- 2013 were to use too much oil,

then Skoda UK know why that would be, and i would be surprised if a Dealership do not also know why it would,

& what they need to do.

george

ps.

 EDIT

I see you posted that

they said, 1 litre in 621 miles.    It is 0.5 Litres in 621 miles.

'Who was they?'   A Service Manager, Technician or Salesperson?

If there is a Case to Log, do it with Skoda UK Customer Services and get approval for a Oil Consumption test

if the oil usage is high enough to indicate a failing engine.

Dealerships are the Agent that will do the Work,

You want to talk to a Workshop Manager or Master Technician in a Garage, unless the Service Manager

is a Qualified Technician.

& knows his 1/2 a litre from his 1 litre, or arse from elbow.

It is ridiculously high, and is not accepted as a pass when they test a car for Oil Consumption,

& then say if they will do a Breather / Valve Mod & test again.

What is the story,

What car have you, how old, what mileage, has it had Warranty Work before,

is it now using lots of Oil.

How much Oil?

If you can say, ?

What Dealership, in which part of Scotland?

The Faults & Issues are known, even if this Service Manager does not know them.

It's a 62 plate vrs, it's done 11k miles. I've had a new seat base and 3 wheels on warranty, no other work done.

It's started abut more oil lately but I've not got the figures to hand. I put 750mls in it recently after only just topping it up 600 miles previously.
