Need help with insurance

Featured Replies

Hi all I'm due to get insurance as I had some set up by my dad that lasted a couple of months, anyways all the quotes I'm getting are stupid cheapest being £3,500, was wondering if anyone can help me find a cheaper insurance

Facts about the car:
1.4 fabia comfort
No mods that bother with insurance
2001 plate
68,000 miles

Facts about me:
Age 19
Student
No other jobs
Had licence for 3-4 months

Area I live in Salford (Manchester)

Anyone got any ideas??

Put the parents on as named drivers? Odd as I got a 1.4 MPI down to £800 depends on area I suppose

Thought you meant how to spell it, after reading the title :D

Go to www.moneysavingexpert.com and go through the comparison sites as it advises. As above, add experienced older drivers as named drivers on the policy. Doing both these steps should save a fair old amount. Let us know how you get on.

Grand parent?

your age and location are the biggest factors in your quotes i imagine and there isnt a lot you can do about either

I'm guessing the location difference is going to be a biggie

i knew there would be disadvantages to moving to salford haha

Try Chris knott. First time I tried them this year and they were the cheapest by £50 for me. You have to ring them and theyre only open 9-5, deffo worth a try.

One of those things about insurance at this age really, my car cost me £2300 to insure without a box with my parents on as named drivers. Sometimes the occupation can make a difference as well - I'm not a student. I did have just under a years experience of driving a company car occasionally before I got my car. Not sure if that helped.

I insured my first car in my parents name and added myself as a named driver for the first few years of driving - even if u shud crash, losing ur parents ncb is still cheaper than the 3500 your getting quotes for!

That's known as 'fronting' and is a form of insurance fraud. If you are discovered, your insurance will be cancelled, leading to insurance so high, you won't be able to afford it.

Try Adrian flux....

Hi,

Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me your details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.

Regards,

Dan.

Wouldn't bother trying flux. They have been rubbish for the last 7 years with quotes for me.

I'm also in Manchester. Mine this year was £600 fully comp on a vRS SE.

I'm 18 and pay £980 for a mk1 fabia vrs   with a years no claims! Might sound daft but try diamond or elephant as they're not just for girls :D

As you are a student, have you tried Ensleigh?

As you are a student, have you tried Ensleigh?

not yet its on my list of things to do

I think co-op also do cheap insurance for young drivers, but and this is a big but(t and I cannot lie), I think its with a box fitted. Curfews, speed limit checking, some of them even log G force for hard acceleration/braking/cornering. I do know a guy on a G logging box who got a phone call from his insurer querying a large decelleration, aka, someone cut him up and he slammed the brakes to avoid them (with a dash camera to prove it if they really wanted to probe further). I wouldnt want to drive with a box, but as a very last resort it might be required to get costs down.
