Super glue removal

Featured Replies

Hi not sure if this is the right place to ask but the previous owner of my car has glued the "f" of my fabia badge back on and now I've removed it cause the rest was coming off I'm left with what looks like super glue on my paint. I've tried autogylm and autosmart tar remover with no joy was wondering if anyone could help me with a way to remove it don't fancy wet sanding it if I can help it

Thanx in advance

If it is superglue (cyanoacrylate) then Acetone which can be found in old style nail vanish remover should soften it. I don't know what it will do to the paintwork however!

Tardis "tar/glue removal"?

Have tried Tardis to try and get the superglue off plastic, it did not work.

I'd be tempted to use a brand new stanley knife blade by hand and gently slide along flush with the paint and at an extremely acute angle, and just chip at it until the mark is flush with the paint.

Then it might be a case of assessing if the glue has eaten into the lacquer as I suspect super glue might well do being such a fast acting adhesive.   Then sadly it will need the wet sand / polishing. :(

Would it polish up ok or would it need polishing up all the time to stay shiny as all the paint around it is good can't see where the badge has been apart from the obvious superglue

Wet sand and polish?

Not done it but should work

My mates Octavia Taxi had badges superglued to it. Just spoke to him & he froze the area with ice cubes, the superglue went very brittle & came off when he pushed a plastic spatula against it. Not done it myself though.

Be interested in this as well as need to get some off paintwork after gluing a light back together and had some dribble onto the bodywork

I'd also be interested in the answer to this because I tried gluing the trim back below the passenger side window and it didn't work, now it's glued off  :'(

I have used CAREFULLY a stanley knife blade - held a little like I guess you were shaving your face, to de-sign write a van.  It helped to tease a corner off the paint to start a peel

As long as the blade is flush with the paint along it's entire length, I think the chance of shaving some clearcoat off is minimal.

Cellulose thinners ?

Cellulose thinners ?

Nooooo!! Absolutely not!!

You run the risk of melting your clearcoat

That's one reason I wasn't going to use nail polish remover

superglue is probably harder than the paint hence why I thought trying to "shave" it off first might be more fruitful.
