Superb xenon headlight adjustment

Featured Replies

Hi

the drivers side xenon headlamp on the above is adjusted far too low (they only light up the road 25Ft in front of the car) so i am about to adjust it slightly up but there are 3 adjusters on the unit dose anyone know which adjusts the up and down,

Cheer

Xenons have to be set up thro' VAG-Com & then manualy adjusted, otherwise they will just revert back to the original position.

I'll be adjusting mine soon. They all seem to be set on the lowest position from the factory & are forgotten about when PDI'ed.

Thanks for the info

When you say "set up thro' VAG-Com & then manualy adjusted" what does this involve . and if they have already been set by "Vag-Com" am I not only manually adjusting them again ?

Cheers

Roy

With the self leveling system the lights have to be in adjustment mode before any twiddling of screwdrivers can be done.

VAG-com will allow you to do this.

Have a look here

A dealer will be able to set them up correctly, if they don't then just show them the above link!

As mentioned, they seem to be set on the lowest setting from the factory.

Thanks Jon for the info it now make sense

do you think the dealer will do the adjustments under warranty or will it be chargable

The car is 9 months old I have owned it 6 weeks, brought for main dealer.

I think the problem you describe is a design feature. The offside light is lower in order to reduce the dazzle for oncoming cars on the other side of the road (as you know Xenons are VERY bright). I think you will find that it is the same (but on opposite side) for LHD cars. That is why it is a dealer mod to adjust the Xenons for driving abroad, not just a stick on adaptor thingy.

I'd read about this, but then just went at it with a screwdriver to see what happened, and it just adjusted the headlamp perfectly, and it stayed right whatever I've done since (loads of luggage, no luggage etc.) It still seems to adjust itself to the load correctly.

I found a long straight, dark road, with a wall at the end, then stood in front of one headlamp whilst I adjusted the other. Its best not to raise them too much, you don't want to dazzle the pour souls coming the other way, but equally, you need to have them high enough to be able to see far enough ahead to match your speed.
