Mk2 2005 octavia 2.0 tdi oil change and filters

Featured Replies

There is no record of the last oil chandelier on my octavia so I am going to give it a service at the same time as doing the dsg oil/filter, getting the oil fuel and air filter isn't a problem I just get the ones that are recommended for my car.but where I have a problem is the engine oil after a little resurch it recommends I get a fully sinthetic long life oil and the I don't need change oil for upto 20+ thousand miles, unless you don't do much motorway driving in that case you don't need to use long life oil.in my case I do more short trips than anything els with the od motorway trip thrown in.with every other car I have owned I changed the oil and filters every 5,000 miles and if I got the long life oil for my octavia it would end up a bit expensive lol so could I get a normal fully sinthetic 5x30 oil and change it every say 10,000 ? Could anyone tell me what is the best thing to do I have never had one of these cars before and I am a little nervous about putting the wrong oil in and doing something to what appears to be a good engine cheers kev.

You need oil that is VW 507 approved.

Quantum longlife is what the dealers use and you can get it for less than £30 for 5L if you shop around.

For non long life oil use vw spec 505.01 oil as it will be cheaper than longlife oil especially if you are going to do 10k changes. Only time u cant use 505.01 oil is if you have a dpf which only applies to vrs pd or 4x4 pd. don't use any oils that don't comply with the vag spec to avoid premature cam wear.

Thanks very much lads I must admit that quantum long life looks good at that price that way it would still be getting the good stuff but at a better price cheers kev.

Definitely don't play roulette with the DSG oil. Only use the genuine stuff that TPS or VW/Audi/Skoda dealers sell........part number G052182A2. Any alternatives are hardly any cheaper and not worth the risk.

Don't play roulette with the engine oil either. 505.01 or 507 (I only use 507 Quantum longlife).

Thanks for the help lads the only things I can find on eBay are quantum longlife 5w-30 fully synthetic at £34.75 is that the right one ? And when I put that code number in for the dsg oil it come up with febi 32394 £73.00 and it's from Poland I take it that is the wrong one ? Cheers kev.
