Just a quickie. I have just purchased this HID conversion kit www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330379335700?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT after searching the forum. Almost everyone said that the NON CAN bus version was the one to go for and then to reprogram with VCDS.

 

This is where I am lost, one post says "Controller 9 needs setting to 'xenons without shutters'."

 

And another has loads of different settings that need to be applied,

 

Open controller 09 Central Electronics.
Byte 0 bit 1 Xenon headlights with shutter installed -- unchecked.
Byte 2 bit 2 Cold lamp diagnostics active - checked
Byte 18 or 19 Find the Cold lamp diagnostics for low beam headlights, uncheck, leave all others checked
Byte 3 bit 4 Xenon headlights without shutter installed (Bi-xenon) - checked

 

The bulbs are 5000k and the ballast is 35w. What settings do I actually need to do.

if your coming from a Halogen equipped car, the first two setting (Byte 0 and Byte 2) should already be correct.

you only need to alter 3 bit 4, and 18 or 19 (depends on CCM version IIRC). if you don't alter the settings then you'll get a bulb failure on the dash.

VCDS will do all the donkey work, if you connect to controller 09, and go to byte 18 and the option is missing from the long coding helper, then look at byte 19.

You can do all the coding first, before swapping anything at least you'll know its ok before you start.

If maybe worth doing a full scan and save so you have the full coding before you start, at least if it goes wrong you know what the values were before starting.

The OP needs to tell us whether his car is a preFL or FL car before giving a definitive answer on the coding.

I have a 2005 Octavia II Elegance hatchback 1.9 TDi 105bhp 1Z CAN bus.

Can someone recommend the best place to install the small ballasts. Are they suitable to install inside the housing of the light or will they fry. I have the 35w ones recommended on the forum from London Colour with 5000k bulbs.
