Marks on Bumper

Featured Replies

Hello

I have a race Bule Octy III. I wash it every 2 weeks. It has a layer of Sonax NPT and I top up with Sonax BSD every 2 weeks. When I washed it Sunday I notices a couple of streaks on the front bumper like the gloss has been removed off the paint. The colour is still there but there is no sheen any more. I remove any bird poo as soon as I see it. Has this been caused by squashed insects? I am surprised if the lacquer has been removed since I try to remove them ASAP. I would try to get a pic to show you but don't think the camera would pick it up.

Can anyone recommend something. It is only a small area and only noticeable if you get right up to the bumper when cleaning.

Have you tried hand polishing the area?

This should reveal what the problem is

Better still...machine polish it

If it doesnt look better it may be a paint defect

You would know if the lacquer had gone as it would be lifting around the whole area.

I used some G3 scratch remover over the area and it didn't do anything. It does sort of look like a splash, Thats why I thought it was from a squashed insect. It is not the end of the world but now i know its there I will also be looking at it when I wash my car.

No its not lifting everywhere its just like something has been splashed on the area (even though it hasn't)

I will be doing a full removal of everything end of October and starting from scratch, claying it and applying NPT again. Hopefully if it is removable this will help.

Sounds like bud/bird etching to me, a machine polish should remedy it if it's not too bad. Otherwise it might need something a little more aggressive such as wet sanding, which is not for the faint hearted.
