The blue ebay cable and vcds

Featured Replies

Does the blue ebay cable not work with the full vcds version? It works with vcds lite and any other software i have like motordiag and nefmoto.

But i cant get a connection with vcds. Interface not found is the error im getting.

Any tips? Or is just not possible.

If someone has a link to an affordable cable that works that would be great. Its not for my laptop and the girl who has the vcds has lost the cable. Dont want to spend a fortune to fix one issue

TIA

You need a genuine Ross-Tech cable which automatically includes a licence if you want to use VCDS

Thanks DGW. Back to the drawing board

I got mine from Ilexa, think they're about £210 plus VAT for a genuine cable

Only need it to reprogram my new ccm to the keys. The boot wont lock and the ccm is at fault.

I'm in Rossendale and work in Didsbury if that helps???

Cheers andy i will bare that in mind mate :)

Can you not use vcds lite? The license is only around £60.

That was my next port of call but ideally wanted to spend as least as possible since ive already spent enough on parts to figure out why the boot wont lock. It hasnt locked for about 15months just lost interest in fixing that bit

VCDS Lite, even registered has its limitations, these are below from Rosstech.

Limitations of VCDS-Lite compared to VCDS even if Fully Registered:

No Generic OBD-II

Won't work with CAN-Bus vehicles

Fewer fault code definitions and label files

No built-in Activation (you'll be limited to a single PC)

No Advanced Measuring Blocks

No Acceleration Measurement

Unregistered the limitations are much greater

Cannot do AutoScan

Won't display text for all fault codes

No Basic Settings (so no TBA, Xenon levelling, etc or checking timing on TDI's)

No Adaptation Saving (so no changing of locking/lights/horn behavior)

No Output Tests

No tech support from Ross-Tech

This is to stop people buying the cheapo chinese ebay cables and simply registering VCDS Lite.

If money is an issue, find someone local who can do it for you. Even an indie with VCDS wouldn't charge too much for 10 mins work

Vcds-lite does do what i want.

Chris, i tried an indy with vcds and they didnt know what i wanted doing. I offered some money to quickly do it myself but they refused.

VCDS Lite is intended for the older non CAN bus cars so buying VCDS offers no advantage if your not planning on using it on newer cars.

Also Ross-Tech no longer sell VCDS Lite interfaces, you have to go the third party route.
