Do I have a problem? Sub 40 MPG on a TDi VRs?

Featured Replies

As above. Start simple.

Check the air filter. Look at the turbo hoses and check for any wobbly connections/oily marks round them. Listen out for any whooshy noises when accelerating.

Definitely not right. I have the 1.9 but with DSG (which reduces the economy somewhat).

I did 620 miles with 35 miles left coming back from Germany via Dover to York which worked out at 54mpg and that was with 2 adults, full boot and full back seats. That was driving at the limits and not a slow run (130kmh in Germany, 120kmh in Belgium, 130kmh in France and 70mph in UK).

When I use she'll v power diesel I hit 55 mpg local driving don't really go under 50mpg however i do be cruising nicely, with the odd learner driver over take

with normal diesel I average about 52mpg according to the computer

money wise £20 from just before reserve gives me 120 miles

full tank v power £65 mix of local and motor way driving gave me 500 on the dot if I'm not mistaken

I did however the other day when fitting my undertray see 2 pipes on either side with what looked to be damp soot however just disregarded it as waa in a hurry

Was going to say what fuel are you using, notice a marked difference between brands with asda being worst and BP giving best returns and then shell, I don't bother with the high performance fuels btw so its not because im swapping between 'normal and super'. That 2p a ltr saving if using supermarket fuel could be costing you more, guess they put more additives in?

And yes ive heard the arguments that they come from the same refinery etc etc but that doesn't tally with my own real world experience of mpg so to me its another option to explore

I use either BP or Sainsburys mainly, sometimes other brands but these are the stations local to me.

Id be sticking with BP for a few refills and see if anything picks up

Yeah maybe I will, however I just did a scan... What does this mean?

I first has an error:

005212 Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 3

P145C - 007 Short to ground - intermittent

Car regenerated again this morning (Successfully)

Particle Filter Load Coefficient - 3.4%

Particle Filter Carbon Mass - 20.09

Carbon Mass Learned Value - -2.7% (Yes minus!)

Anyone know if the sensor is a major concern?

I think the carbon mass learned value is the actual ash content against an expected mass, i.e. you have slightly less than would be expected given the mileage.
