They flagged up passenger side Track Rod had play and could do with being replaced. Quoted me £330 parts and labour with tracking an additional £45. That's excessive, right?

Massively. Flip 'em the bird and go find someone else to do your work.

Not quite, track rod not track rod end, usually around £80 ish from Skoda, much less from Euro Car Parts. Shouldn't be any more than £200.

cost me £7 quid for 1 fitted it in 20 mins and tracked it myself 

Assuming you need a complete track rod and not just a TRE...

Parts are about £70 retail (incl VAT). IIRC, book time for book procedure is about 3 hours, so that's £80/hour. London prices? :(

My mistakes misread it!

Think my last inner rack end was £24 from euro car parts.

Labour can go up and usually replace the Track rod end at the same time anyway.

I'd quote £100 at my garage for an inner rack end replacement.

Piece of cake to.do if you have the right tool. Euro were pretty cheap for the full track rods. Including new tre. The tools about £15 or something like that off eBay. I managed with a set of mole grips. Also worth mentioning you will need to change the boot if the new rod is bigger than the old. They changed the size. But think vrs are all the new ones.

Thanks for all the info. Will go back to dealer with all this and see what they say. And will certainly check out some indies.

Have you got a proper tracking gauge? I just use a Gunson's Trakrite. which seems to work well enough.

I think i paid 130 for both sides doing, but that was at a small local garage.
