Access to Canbus Gateway success :) Upgrade Stream MP3 to Bolero

Featured Replies

Very productive morning.

I have been wanting to upgrade my stream mp3 head unit to the bolero for a while now.

I was concerned about battery drain issues due to the age of my car and the extra expense involved in updating my can gateway.

It's a 57 plate VRS Manufactured October 2007.

With no access to VCDS my only option was to find the unit itself and find out what version I had.

Firstly it took me only 25mins to get access to the can gateway thanks to the help of the below link which I found through this forum

http://www.r32oc.com/topic/29242-canbus-gateway-location-removal/

Absolutely spot on instructions for anybody wishing to locate there own unit.

When I got to the can gateway what's printed on it indicates to me I have version L. I hope I've read this correct,

(I took a picture just for clarification but I can't seem to upload it) the sticker has 2 long numbers at the top which read

1KO 907 530L

HW. 1KO 907 951

And along the bottom it on the left it reads

5WK50011B

It also appears to have a date on it which reads 25.05.07.

I assume I'm ok to go ahead and purchase a bolero head unit and install it without the worry of my battery draining overnight?

Any feedback would be early appreciated.

Thanks.

You do indeed have an L revision gateway... so you should not have any battery drain problems!

That's great thank you for your responses and clarification.

Mike, I'm pretty sure I came across the thread you mention above when I was researching this over the last few days, I will also try and find it and update it with my findings today.

Many thanks again.

Hi,

Mine is suffix K, is it ok with a Columbus please?

TIA

There is a VERY slim chance the 'K' revision might work, but I've not heard of anyone trying it.

Keep thinking I should put my one back in and see if it works or not...

I remember vaguely reading about SOME software version of 'K' that might work, but nothing conclusive.

Might give mine a try before I p/x it shortly.

I have a 2006 Octavia and IIRC, it had a G revision. I upgraded mine to an AC or AD I think.

My father has a 2005 car and his is even older, E or F.

So is it just a matter of opening the controller and ticking "sat nav installed", or cant you do it like that?

Depends what you are referring to? Replacing a whole CAN bus involves ticking a lot of boxes.

No Just the sat nav one, if there is one, never checked the coding on that one, done the usual mods to central conv., steering wheel, and engine but not that one.
