Dealer advice for recall work please

Featured Replies

Hi

I need to get my vRS to a dealer to get the gearbox oil changed and the ecu software update done.

I searched the site here and there is some older discussion on the quality of work from some of the Scottish dealerships - not much of it confidence inspiring I must admit!

I live on Orkney so once I'm on the mainland I will travel as far as required to get the job done well. So my question is, which is the best place to try?

Arnold Clark in Inverness is nearest but I've phoned them 6 times today and not yet got through to the service dept and nobody has phoned me back as promised.

Victoria Garage in Maud, Specialist Cars Aberdeen and Thompson and Potter in Burrelton are all 250 - 265 miiles away.

After that it would be Dundee, Edinburgh or Glasgow (all about 5 hours drive once I get onto the mainland).

Thanks for any help

There is no recall, just notice of them advising you have the 'Service Campaign' work done.

& it is up to you if you want it doing.

That can be at the next service if you want.

Aberdeen, Dundee & Burrellton are all Skoda Specialist cars John Clark Group.

Best avoided IMO.

Only at pain of death use AC workshops for any work on your car.

I would go to Maud, or a VW Dealership for the Service and the Service Campaign work on the DSG.

after all it was VW that have implemented the Service Campaign and sent out the letters.

Thanks! That sounds promising as we have a VW service agent up here.

I think you've mentioned in the past that there was a software update for this car, is it worth doing soon? If I don't travel south to do this specially I may not be south for a year.

No need to have it done if your car is running OK.

But if you think any loss of power / drive or interruption of power will be a problem for the other half,

maybe best get it done.

As it is, if you have Skoda Assist, i take it they will have to transport it to the Mainland & then return it.

You have your Warranty and if the car had not had it done there is no requirement.

If there was a Failure of some Sort then Skoda / VW would be responsible.,

Their design, or manufacturing errors it would appear.

If it was Safety Critical VW / SKODA would have a Recall and it would be on the VOSA Recall site.

I have not heard of them Extending the Warranty on the DSG in Europe if the Service Campaign Field Action work is

not a solution to them having used the wrong oil originally.

and if the Dealership messes up, or the car goes wrong, they seem to put the blame back on the Workshop.

So if you want it doing, Service Time would seem to be the best time,

If the Service Schedule for the vRS & the DSG now includes the change Officially.

My car is 3 years old so there will be no warranty left now I'm afraid.

Sounds like I'll think about maybe getting this service campaign work when i'm next south if i still have the car then.

Thanks for your input

Have you considered buying an Extended Warranty.   The 2 Year 'Skoda Approved Extended Warranty'.

 Worth its weight IMO.

Maybe worth getting it Including the Skoda Assist.

As long as the car has been serviced to the Service Schedule and is under 6 Years old.

I'll just look into it now. According to the service book, and Skoda themselves who I checked with, the car has a full service history.

thanks
