START-STOP issues

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a Toledo petrol 105 with start-stop (which I guess is fitted to Rapids also) but it just doesn't stop very often.  I know there are a lot of parameters governing whether the engine will shut down to save fuel or not, but mine seems to only operate about once per 20 journeys.

Already had it checked at one dealer - no fault found.

Anybody else having this problem.  I know if I'd paid extra for Greentech and it did nothing I'd be annoyed.

I had a courtesy car start stop i had to stop neutral handbrake foot off clutch every time as soon as i pressed the clutch it started done my head in so turned it off

I agree that would annoy the hell out of me. They're a waste of time.

It's dependent on the battery being charged, the engine being hot (mine still stops before it gets up to temperature) and the alignment of the stars.

Anything that requires the engine to be running will make it start again, the obvious one being depressing the clutch but if you turn the steering wheel it starts to allow the power steering pump to work. There are a few others

On the rare occasions it does stop, the restart functions fine.  Like Del says, the alignment of heavenly bodies seems to be incorrect.  Maybe I should get it blessed by the priest :D

biggest issues for it not stopping are

ventilation on windscreen demist (does not stop so you don't lose heat to demist)

steering more than about a 1/8 to 1/4turn off straight ahead

OMG, I use demist almost all the time.  I'll check this tomorrow.

bluecar1 - you're a b*****y genius!!!

all the way to work, with air set away from the screen, start-stop working as intended!!!

Stormchaser - I'll put up with the annoyance of start-stop for 7% better fuel mileage :)

its all I the manual

I am just one of the sad people who read the manual front to back to find all the little toys and how to play with them

the other one you will find is there is a sensor on the brake vacuum, if you get it to stop, pump the brake peddle a couple of times to drain the vacuum out the servo and it will restart

there endless fun you can finding all the stop start conditions if bored in traffic

I don't normally read manuals for anything, but having treated myself to a new car for the first time in 11 years, I did read the book - SEAT manuals make no mention of the detailed points you did - cheers!
