low milage servicing

Featured Replies

i bought my 03 octi vrs in february of this year and was told it is on the variable servicing. Since buying the car I have done approx 3000 miles and the service light has now come on. According to the service book it had its last service on the 16-9-04 at 20,000miles (Now 26,000miles). Does this seem right for low milage driving on variable servicing? I have a hunch it is on 12month servicing but I just thought I would ask your opinions.

Thanks

Most manufacturers still recommend 1 service a year no matter how low the mileage maybe.

My superb was on variable servicing and that kept coming up every 6000 miles, I do tend to use the full potential of the engine tho  so perhaps you are also a 'spirited' driver?

I had mine set to fixed 10,000 mile services in the end.

The variable service adjusts acording to your driving style, so if you drive like a nun you will get long service intervals, if you drive like colin mc'rae you will get short service intervals!

If on variable servicing it should be two years not one if not reaching the mileage.

I have to admit I do enjoy a spirited drive now and again, but most of my journeys are less that 10miles so I thought that the variable servicing might be of an advantage. I dont do a spirited drive unless i'm doing 15miles or more and I always let the engine idle for 30secs to 1min before i turn off.

There is a sensor which determines the viscosity of the oil so even if you've only done say 6k miles, due to "spirited" driving the service indicator may come on.

As Ross has already said.....on variable it needs servicing every 20k or every 2 years or if the service indicator comes in ...which ever is sooner.

My old octy vRS is now prompting for its next service, this will be its 3rd. The last one was carried out in September 2003.
