wipers parking

Featured Replies

hi, I read a thread about the windows going up when the car is unoccupied and it starts to rain, I tried this on my 2008 Octavia 2.0 tdi with rain sensitive wipers and it did indead work. but my thread is about when the wipers are parked. I noticed that sometimes they go right down and sometimes they start to go up again before stopping. at first I thought something was wrong but I noticed the other day when it was only raining slightly and I was just rocking the stalk downward to get one wipe, that it alternates between one right down and then one down and up a bit. my theory is that its designed to do this so that the blades don't always stay bent one way - ie, down stroke - for long periods of time thus affecting their performance when its time to use them again.

anyone else noticed this or have I just got too much time on my hands ??

your theory's correct.

yep.  that's how it works

Wow learn something every day!

Amazing how many little things make up a (good) car.

Yes, OP the wipers park in different positions to avoid as you say leaving the wiper rubber the same way.
