My Fabia RS has been a great car and has done around 21,000km in 2 years. Recently, I noticed that every now and again, there is a flashing spanner symbol in the top right corner of the MFD over the top of the gear indicator (for instance, D3, S4, etc.). It's a DSG model. Usually, I hadn't noticed anything in the performance of the car but today when pulling out onto a main road with a little momentum, I put my put on the accelerator and nothing happened/car was very slow to respond before jerking. I was turning right straight away and hit the brakes and rolled to a stop. When I took off again, the car was fine.

 

I haven't checked the engine oil or anything but its going in for a service on Thursday. Anyone experienced this before and have any idea what it is?

Have you checked your car manual for the implications relating to the spanner  symbol being shown?

 

Also have you called or e-mailed your service manager / Master Tech, prior to putting the car in for the service.

 

Has your car been part of a service campaign by Skoda to change the DSG oil?

Incase it is the dsg ?? Has the gearbox had a check to see if it requires the dsg service campaign field action. Oil changed to mineral and the ecu update.

Be sure that they do more and check and replace the mechatronic control unit if it is faulty. Be sure they understand the issue.

As you are having your car serviced ask them to change the fuel filter too.

They do collect a certain amount of water over time and this just could be the thing.

Had it last week on a 2011 Mondeo.

vrskeith - I have searched everywhere in the manual and haven't found anything. I also looked into the DSG recall but the Fabia wasn't included in Australia as far as I could tell.

goneoffSKi - I'll make sure they are aware of the issue when I drop it in and get them to replace anything. It's still under warranty so I'm not paying anything for it.

Carlo diesel - I'll also ask whether this might be the case. Think its probably a gearbox issue though, doesn't seem to be fuel related.

The spanner dsg is in where it tells you on overheating. And tells you to let cool down.sorry on a train and no reception.

Seems to be happening consistently though. If I set off really slow, let the engine warm up, it seems to not do it. Although this morning I did that and it did. Starting to get very annoying.

Are you going to do anything about it?

 

Was there a Recall or Service Campaign on your DSG's in Australia as there was in New Zealand.

Has any work been done already, Mineral Oil instead of Synthetic & an ECU Update.

The Mechatronic Control Unit checked.

I searched a lot to try and find out if my model was part of the DSG recall but couldn't find anything (included Audi and VW but not Skoda). I asked when it went in for a service and they said they'd check the faults log but couldn't find anything. I asked whether they checked the gearbox/clutches/oil level but they said they couldn't get into it/didn't have access. I'm going to ring them up this morning and ask more directly than I did because its starting to really annoy me.

I've had differing reasons for the symbol online: mechatronic failure, oil level low, gearbox needs changing, overheating clutches, etc.

The publicity was that there was a World Wide Recall on the DQ200 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch Gearbox.

 

World Wide excluding Europe where it is a Service Campaign.

Odd if it Excludes Australia with DSG built in the EU.

I'm going to call the service centre and try to work out whether my vehicle is covered. Presumably it should be if its a MY13?

So I called the Service Centre. Asked about the recall, they said it wasn't related to the Fabia, which is weird. I assume the DSGs they put in the Fabia are the same/similar to those put in the Octavia and Superb, which were recalled. She suggested that I bring it in next time it does it and hopefully catch it in the act. She asked whether I wanted to book it in again. Seeing as though its just had a service, I declined (not going to throw my money away) so I'll just see if I can catch it in the act and take it straight to a service centre, get them to check the errors log and see whether they can work out what's wrong. Surprised they didn't pick it up as part of a service - wouldn't they check the gearbox/mechatronic/clutch as part of that?

 

Car is only two years old and has 21,000km on the dials.

Strange I had my car delivered july last year MY12 and when it went in for its 1500km check they did a dsg ecu update so there's definitely one for it.

I'd be ringing another dealer and asking them about the update.
