Fresh Air Blower - Mechanical Failure

Featured Replies

Hi Guy's,

Jumped in the car yesterday and noticed that there wasn't any air coming from the vents even though the fan was on the 3rd led, turning it onto full still didn't work. I've checked for faults and found the following:

Address 08: Auto HVAC        Labels: 1K0-907-044.lbl

1 Fault Found:
01273 - Fresh Air Blower (V2)
            003 - Mechanical Failure

So, at present I'm having to slightly open a window so the air can be pulled through the vents to demist the car. All the vents are working correctly as is the temperature controls. I've noticed that I'm unable to select recirculate or A/C. The 40A fuse is ok.

I'm guessing as the fault suggests that the blower/fan has failed ?

Recirc is normally controlled by a flap valve, not the blower. I still think the fault is in the heater box anyway.

Hi Ken, thanks for your reply, with regards to the flaps, I am able to select windscreen, face and feet and the hot air does move with my selection, so I guess the flap mechanism is working correctly. I am able to select recirc and A/C for the first 10 seconds when starting the engine, after that they are disabled. Would this be because the fan has failed ?

I think this is because the car knows the blower/fan has failed so to prevent future damage will not let u select ac as the air is not going to be pushed out , if u get what I mean

The blower is located under the glovebox on the left of the pollon filter, easier access if you remove glovebox(5 screws all together,

If I was you I would remove the blower give it a few spins clean any dirt inside plug back in and try to see if it starts up again

Hi, just had to change blower on my 1.9 tdi 07 same thing happened no air coming

Through vents.very easy remove just twist whole motor and it drops out, there are plastic

Lugs that need bending down slightly , to allow motor to rotate.guess hardest bit is laying

In footwell to see what you are doing.I connected motor direct to battery and it worked ok

Or so I thought.I fitted new resistor, cost £10.00 .fits just side of motor, push fit.Anyway still

Didn't work, so got new motor euro parts. £65.00 . Works fine now.Got spare resistor for

Future use. Hope that helps

Sorry, just a quick question, as mine is climatronic, does it have the resistor pack fitted ?

Right, just a quck update. I had a bit of spare time at work this morning, so I removed the fan assemble and found that it had seized. I managed to free it up quite easily, cleaned it and lubricated the top bearing. All refitted and working correctly, well pleased. Many thanks guy's for your comments and suggestions, cheers

Right, I obviously spoke too soon. The blower worked fine until Sunday morning, no air again !

Anyway removed the fan and found it was a bit stiff so I decided to spray a bit of GT85 on it and through the holes where the motor brushes are fitted. Managed to free it up and fitted it back to the car, all worked fine (just smelt a bit of GT85) on all levels (fan speed).

So, this morning start the car up to go to work and notice that there is no air from the vents. I've just taken the fan out from under the dash and powered it up on the floor. If I select full speed, the fan spins up fast for a couple of seconds then drops back to roughly selecting 3 (on the LED's) and stays at that speed. It does the same once I refitted it.

Could it be that spraying GT85 everywhere in the motor housing has fubar'd the climitronic board in the fan assembly ? I guess its probably just a case of me replacing the fan now
