2 x Buckled Rims - New Rim Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Finally solved the problem of the steering vibration on the VRS, 2 x buckled rims (one badly), but no obvious impact damage.  I'm putting this down to huge pot holes here in Qatar.

Anyway, I could do with your help/guidance on the size, rim choice and company to purchase from.

Firstly, what is the current size and full specification of the Giagio rims as I need this information for the new rims (not changing size, want to retain the 205/40/R17 tyres)

Secondly, any suggestion on rims for the car (white/black roof car colour), leaning towards black tbh.

Thirdly, any recommendation on dealers to purchase from in the UK (will need to get them shipped to Qatar)

Thanks

I had not read any post on steering vibration, only on your Tyre wear.?

How did you discover the buckled wheels,  was it when new tyres were being fitted and balanced?

are you intending getting 4 wheels?

why not go for 16" rims unless it needs to stay at 17" to use the tyres you have?.

You can maybe get 4 new 16" with tyres for about the same as 4 new Gigaro

Google

skoda gigaro alloys 17" UK

& you should see the Skoda Dealers selling new wheels

5 x 100, 7J x 17" ET 41

I swapped the back tyres to the front to buy me some time until I get some tyres ordered and delivered to Qatar.

I still had the vibration, so today popped to the local garage ot have the fronts re/balanced.  However I noticed when on the machine the wheel had a really bad buckle, got him the check the wheels (prev on the front) and one of those had a minor buckle too.

So my options are, buy two new gigaro wheels or buy 4 new ones, plus I still need 4 new tyres

The reason i am suggesting not just getting more Gigaro is that they might just go the same way.

You could get a strong 16" alloy, and more protection from the taller sidewall tyres.

& you then have a pair of Spare 17's if required.

The Fabia Monte Carlo has 17" Trinity Wheels in the UK,

but in Australia they are fitted with 16" Alloys as standard.

In UK there are places which fix alloy wheels, not sure how it works in Quatar.

BTW, Gigaros are heavy, sturdy wheels, must have been one mother of a pothole to buckle them! No wonder your traction was so massively off, you might have bent other things on your suspension as well.

The Price at Horton Skoda for the Gigaro seems to be about what you need to pay.

Or you need to find a Dealer that has 'Take Offs'.  & will arrange Delivery to you.

4 Used Gigaro with Tyres are usually about £400- £500 in the UK in the Likes of Briskoda For Sales.

So it is a case of finding a seller you can trust and arrange the Delivery to you.

I have bought Used Gigaro & Tyres, but was collecting from the Seller.

A Member has lovely wheels for sale in Greece that would be nice on your car.

I had a similar experience with my front left after potholing it. Had it fixed at a reputable Alloy specialist in Dublin, car was so smooth afterwards I couldn't believe the difference. He also said the place that balanced them originally was rubbish, he put about 10g of weight total on after repair work
