Any subaru owners here?

Featured Replies

I have a few questions regarding the P1 impreza.

1. Are they imports or uk models?

2. Why are imports more expensive to insure?

3. What sort of mpg can be expected?

4. How reliable are they?

5. How much should one pay for a P1 is good condition?

Im possibly considering one in a years time when im 25. What are sort of quotes would I be looking at with no ncb.

I'm not a suburu owner, but I do know the P1 was not an import, but a limited run "special" and they are kinda bullit proof for reliability... kinda rare though, you may be hard pressed to find one.......

1. They are UK Models. Basically a Jap STi TypeR that was played with by prodrive to make it more suited to uk roads and fuel.

2. There are unknowns as to cost of repairs and safety gear etc.

3. From a P1? High teens to low twenties, maybe a bit more on a gentle run.

4. Usuall Scooby issues like No3 big end bearing and gearbox issues. Just make sure it has a full service history with loads of bills to back everything up.

5. P1's are still holding there money well, you will get a Jap STi TypeR a lot cheaper but may pay more insurance and have the risk of it's unknown past.

Dealers are charging anywhere between

What Lee said. :D The UK Subaru's tend to be bullet proof and the P1 is the last of the classic shaped Impreza's. Few things it's missing compared to the STi Type-R it is based on are climate control, adjustable diff-control, intercooler water spray, rear wiper and instrument cluster with centre mounted rev counter. But, it does have front foglights, P1 embroidery everywhere, kick plates and 17" OZ anthacite wheels. Oh, and that P1 spoiler is about

@25 lol....I fell for that too, cheaper insurance and all, try over 40 now.

Go for it, but I've read enough now and heard enough not to pursue the subaru road, least not old cars or modified.

P1's are not that rare, they're available but a good one costs

Howcome insurance is more expensive on imports?

Its not all imports that are more expensive but "grey" imports definitely would be (by "grey" imports I mean models that aren't available in the UK). The reason these "grey" imports are more expensive is that if the car is not available in the UK it is likely that it will be more expensive for the insurer to get parts in the event of an accident etc. HTH :)

Chris, a few people have told me the uk turbo 2000 is nothing like the sti's, type r's and other high spec subarus in terms of performance.

Out of the box, it's nothing like an STi, but slap a remap (and raise the rev limiter), full decat and air filter on and you're knocking at the door of 300bhp. Aside from the Type-R which has the trick diff lock, they all have the same transmissions system and viscous coupling centre diff. I think the Jap imports have slightly stiffer suspension over the UK turbo, but on our roads that isn't necessarily an advantage ;) The Jap imports also have shorter gear ratios so expect poorer fuel economy :D

I guess it depends what you want and whether you're planning to mod or have the power out of the box..... obviously you can remap, decat and put an air filter on an STi too ;)

That explains Stu. Shame all STI models on the classic shape are grey imports then.

If the car is insured 3rd party then, surely it shouldnt matter whether its an import are not as the insurance company wont be forking out for repairs?

So you think a remap, decat exhaust and filter will push it up to above 280bhp? What does the PPP consist of and is it available for classic shape impreza.

Did UK imprezas come in world rally blue? Im just having a look at imprezas on ebay, theres alot of naff ones out there.

I do like this one.

Ive also had a look at rs octavias on ebay too and im cringing at the resale prices. I also dont like the idea of buying a car that is older than my current car.

My heart tells me to do it, while my head tells me not to.
