Loud Buzz From Scuttle Pannel - Bang/ticking from speakers

Featured Replies

Yesterday I had a bit of a weird problem.

I was servicing the Octavia, so had it parked, unlocked, windows down, bonnet up and the radio on without the keys in the ignition.

I lent in to turn the radio up, as soon as I touched the volume, it went dead. First there was a very loud thud from all of the speakers, and then they had a rhythmic click every few seconds.

Under the bonnet there was a high pitch buzzing noise appearing to come from under the scuttle panel.

No amount of attempting to turn the radio off, cycling the ignition, locking and unlocking or anything stopped it.

Removing the negative battery lead, it still carried on for around 5 seconds but eventually stopped.

I reconnected the battery after around a minute and everything appeared to be normal.

It did this once before when driving. I'd started the car, reversed out of a space and adjusting the radio caused the thud and ticking. I didn't get under the bonnet and hear the buzz as that time cycling the ignition stopped it.

I even did a scan yesterday after it happened as I had VCDS cable on me, and it showed up nothing that would suggest what it is.

I had the headlights out at the time so the light errors I assume are nothing to do with this.

Yup.

Had this on the Stream a few times.

Could be just driving along it would just freeze and make funny noises.

Or it would randomly make really loud popping noises or the volume would go mega loud for a split second. Used to make me jump out of my skin.

It seems its common on the Stream and I have heard tales of the dealers having a software update for it to cure this problem.

Did it ever have a buzz/squeal from under the scuttle panel?

That was the most alarming bit.

I wish I'd recorded it now but my main concern was stopping it at the time.

Not that I ever heard.

But it always happened when we were driving so may just not have been able to hear it.
