Re booting Stream Audio unit??

Featured Replies

Anyone had similar problems to this? Parked the car up while listening to an FM station, cmae back to it an hour or so later and the radio showed "no cd" on the screen. Tried to eject teh cd from the front and it said again "no cd" which is wrong coz I WAS listenign to that before switching to the radio. Then when I switch to the cd changer it freezes up and says "please wait", Switching to FM gives no sound at all and it can't seem to find any stations.

Spoke to my dealer who said to call the workshop on Monday but the stream did sometimes need to be re booted by them. Seems a bit weird but I wondered if anyone had come across this problem before. It's annoying as the car is only 4 weeks old. 4 weeks of the octy 2 and I hit this whereas my previous 7 skodas have only managed to notch up one flat tyre and a blown bulb between them over the last 18 years

The quickest way to reboot would be to pull the radio fuse out.

don't know where it is though

Have had a few lock up, fuse pulling reset them.

Fuse is listed in your handbook.

I have found the stream radio unsatisfactory from day 1. It has far worse FM RF performance that the Grundig in my Mk 1 Ocky. It suffers from breakthrough regualy on FM. This persists even after the flash upgrade that was supposed to sort things out.

I have also had a stuck CD, fortunately only once and the problem sorted itself out.

I understand that Skoda Germany have concededed that the Stream Radio has serious problems. Is it worth a concerted effort to get the same admission from Skoda UK?

well bizarrely it was still the same when I got up this mornign so I was resigned to a dealer visit tomorrow but this afternoon as if my magic it was all OK again. Might be worth nagging Skoda UK if it is a widespread problem but it doesn't seem to be that common.

Just put in the order for our Octy 2 this morning - thought I'd got a dream deal until the salesman (an honest chap I've know for years) rang up in some confusion to say he'd quoted a cost-to-change based on the hatchback rather than the estate I'd asked for. But the final price was still within what I'd expected, so no real problems.

Ordered an Audience, as I'm keen on good quality sound and thought I could improve on the Stream in the Octy we took out for a 24-hour test drive. That certainly suffered from break-through - very irritating if you're listening to Classic FM and suddenly get a couple of seconds of funk.

However, the Audience looks identical to the Stream - are the RF circuits the same? I know one gets more power and speakers with the Audience, but I was rather hoping that the head unit would be better. Is it - does anyone know? Do Audience owners suffer the same break-through problems as Stream owners (I sincerely hope not!)?

What did you order in the end?

Octy 2 Estate, 2.0 TDi with DSG, metallic Sahara Beige, Onyx leather, Audience radio/CD, sunroof, curtain airbags, ESP + EDL + HBA, tyre pressure monitor. Didn't go for Xenons, as we don't do that much night driving and what we do is mainly on motorways (and because the cost seems excessive for low beam only). Also forewent (is that a word)? the SatNav as our little TomTom Go is perfectly adequate and (as others have pointed out) a built-in system locks you into last year's technology. I could buy two more TomToms for the cost of the Skoda system (and we can transfer the present one to our Smart when needed).

This is a car which is going to do us 10 years, so I didn't want to stint on the extras, but wanted to be sure what we got was a worthwhile use of our money. I know others might have chosen differently, but I think we're going to be very happy with it....

Interesting point: I could have saved money (say GBP1500) by buying through a broker and selling privately, but chose to do a deal with our local garage, who have always been straight up-and-down with us. Less hassle and I know I'll get good service in future.

The local garage? Le Car Centre in Finchley Central, North London. Ask for John Giorgiou... (No connections except as a satisfied customer, etc. etc...)

Latest from my dealer is that the Stream needs a software upgrade "there's a cd to flash the memory" but this is non urgent so booked in for a couple of weeks' time.

Weird stuff but as long as it works I'll be happy. Shame it chose the start of a 2 hour drive when I was shattered after an early rise and a long day's work to pack up on me!

Has anybody suffered from a loud and I mean LOUD static pop from the system on startup? Its happened twice now to me, I turn the ignition on, the stereo goes POP, knocks off and switches back on again! I also get a strange sound fault every now and again that is difficult to explain. The sound sounds like when you were young (or maybe some of you still do it) and you played cowboys and indians, well that indian noise you used to make, my Octys stream likes to make it too, think its only on radio but dont quote me on that. Bizarre eh?

Edit make that three times now as its happened again today and I think I know whats causes it to happen, as Shelmo (Below) has found. It seems to happen if the car is stopped and started in a short space of time, e.g. filling up or nipping to the shop so the question is, whats causing it?

Dunno about indian noises!? But - Oh yes. I got a loud 'POP' when I stalled the car once. Cycled the ignition off and on quickly and nearly dropped my guts it was that loud. Ever since then (about 2 months ago) I can hear engine whine thru the speakers. Think it was probably some sort of capacitor blowing on the amplifier side of things. Not to mention the N/S/F tweeter sounds unhappy when volume is turned up. Not got round to letting the dealer look at it. The car is about 7 months old. Not impressed really!

Had the flash upgrade some time ago. If anything the radio was slightly worse after it.

Drove through NE London yesterday, breakthrough was pretty annoying.

My car is now 5 months old with 14,000 miles. I also get the very load bang intermittantly. The first time I heard it I assumed a stone had been thrown very hard at the car but couldnt find damage. As you say it is really loud. As to the breakthrough on FM have you tried switching off the traffic info. I only get problems when this is switched on. The trouble is that FM at the edge of the range is patchy. The receiver gets a momentary signal to switch stations but then the signal dissapears and it has to switch back. All my cars in recent years have suffered from this phenomen

well apparently mine has NEWER sw than the flash update

so they have said "let's not mess about, we'll order a new head unit for you"

Can's complain at that, full marks to West End Garage Broxburn!

My radio is doing the same (displaying "no cd", multi-changer freezing and no sound). At first corrected by engine off and on again, but now not at all. Will try fuse out.

I found the best way to reset the stream unit, was with a bit of TLC from my fist. A good thunk ontop of it soon made it eject the cd.

As a bit of feedback, I removed the two fuses, had a good look at them (they were fine) and put them back again. Hey presto, it now all works again!

could you please tell me where these fuses are as I have the CD error message as well

Hi guys,

here is what I do when it hangs on my O2 Classic 08/2007 (happens two or three times a year, so not bad):

-turn radio off

-turn radio on with button kept pressed until the loud bang appears and radio turns off again. This is the way of rebooting the radio mentioned above.

-turn radio back on normally. Current MP3- or CD-Track played should be reset.

After that my Stream always works normally again. This should be the same way as removing the fuses but w/o the hassle.

Let me know it it worked.

Many thanks German man tried it this morning it seems to run through some sort of diagnostics and hey presto it works --- go to the top of the class

I am new to Skoda, but I have a Octavia 1.9TDI DSG Estate fitted with a Stream.

My car was new Jan'07, but I bought it about 3 months ago.

I have had problems with the Stream since I bought it - even when I test drove the car the cd/radio hung (bit like a windows pc! sometimes) and it would only eject a cd half way out or not at all or the screen would say "NO CD" etc!

Dealer raised a warranty ticket for the thing to be replaced 3 months ago.

Still no replacement, with no valid lead time!!

Wonder why? I think I know now I have found this excellent forum, thanks all!

I usually find by turning the ignition off and on the thing resets.............................still not acceptable though.

Many thanks for all above, very helpful.

Now going on to investigate the Teves fault!

Should I have bought a Skoda?!
