Mk1 VRS seat hasn't got an airbag so your airbag light is being caused by something else. You need to get a VCDS/Vagcom diagnostic done.

the car is an elegance, and the seats had airbags - now i have vrs seats without airbags so need to bypass it!

Ah I see.  Can't help you on what resistor you'll need. If you can get your hands on a multimeter you could measure the resistance on the old seat & go from there. You might be able to code it out with VCDS.
