Skoda Octavia Estate (W-reg, high mileage, but I still love it!)with clueless owner has recurrent intermittent warning light problem (yes - I do mean the important one).It has been checked by dealer who can find no fault and no error codes stored... Is this par for the course and should I learn to live with it???Anyone help? :o

Hi and welcome. :wavey: Which engine does it have?

Hi Denis< Ta for responding. Its a 1.9 TDI. The annoying thing is that some days I don't have the problem and others it bleats at me several times in quick succession, and then either resets or just flashes silently, which is all rather annoying and possibly concerning?!It ain't burning oil however, and there are no signs of leaks... My brother has just sent me a replacement oil pressure sensor. Is this easily replaced, is it likely to be the solution and if so what are the torque settings? I must add at this jucture that I'm female, have no experience of car maintenance but am willing to try but would be happier if only I could get a Haynes manual to follow...Is there anyone trying to encourage Haynes to produce one??? Cheers, T

Whilst there isn't a Haynes Manual for your car, their manual for the VW Golf and Bora Petrol & Diesel (April 98 - 00) R to X - Book No 3727 - should have a lot of useful repair info for your car. (I have the similar 2001 to 2003 manual which I use for reference for my 2002 Octavia.) Reading my manual it looks as if it should be very straightforward to change the oil pressure warning light switch. One of our resident techs will hopefully confirm how shortly.

PS: The switch is fitted to the right-hand side of the oil filter housing. You will need to remove the engine top cover to see it. Disconnect the wiring connector and wipe the area around the switch clean. Unscrew the switch and remove it along with the sealing washer then replace with new parts.

sounds like the oil pressure switch to me as for torque spanner tight will do but don't over do it.

Above 150,000 - seems high to me...Have you asked this q coz you think theres an underlying terminal problem!!!!I got the car in May and I think it's OK. My brother wonders whether the fault is dodgy wiring...God knows! :)
